Nipomo U-12 girls all-star team wins 3 out of 5

Members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers pose for a team photo with their medals after the Nipomo AYSO U-12 girls all-star team captured second place in the Spaceport All-Star Tournament in Lompoc last weekend.

The team includes, from left, front row, Alex Cunningham, Tatiana Silva and Kanani Neel; middle row, Viviana Silva, Karla Ramirez, Sophie Rubio and Maddie Zambo; and, back row, coach Mark Rubio, Alejandra Torres, Lacy LeBlanc, Mayra Bautista, Kate Russell and assistant coach Kim LeBlanc.

Red Hot Chili Peppers players defeated a Santa Barbara team 3-0 and Santa Ynez 5-1 in the first day of the tournament Saturday.

The team then lost to Lompoc 3-2 but beat another Santa Barbara team 3-1 in the semifinals Sunday.

In the finals later that day, the Chili Peppers faced the same Lompoc team again, and after both teams went scoreless in the first half, the Lompoc team scored two unanswered goals in the second half to hand the Peppers the second-place finish.
