Farmers' Market officially moves on Sunday

Well the Farmers’ Market made it through the holidays, hope you did too! Now we have a whole new year to get through.

For the Nipomo Farmers’ Market, the new year brings new opportunities for the growers as well as our customers. The growers are still bringing our usual winter crops, but at the same time we are starting to look to the future. Now is the time for getting hold of as many seed catalogs as you can so you can check out all the different types of crops that can be grown this coming year. From the consumers’ point of view, now is when you should be at the market telling the growers what you want them to be raising for you. You never know, they might just listen to you!

The big change this year is the fact that we will be setting up at a new location. Effective this Sunday, the market will be located in front of the Monarch Dunes Club at Trilogy. That’s 1645 Trilogy Parkway for those of you who want to do a Google map search. We have been handing out maps for the last month at the market, so we hope to see many of our regular faces at the market. But we are always ready to have new customers show up; the more the merrier. If you want to get there from Willow, just take Via Concha in for about a mile and a half and we will be right in front of the country club. From Tefft, you take Mesa for three miles and you will run right into us. And if you are going along on Highway 1, just look for the main entrance of Woodlands. We will be only a quarter-mile off the highway. See you there this and every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

When you get there, who and what will you see? Well, Jackie is our plant lady. If you are looking for just about any kind of plant for either indoor usage or outdoor landscaping, she’s the person to see. Willi will have plenty of strawberries on a year-round basis. In addition, he has green onions, broccoli, cauliflower, salad mix and spinach at this time of the year. If you are looking for humus, then Moez is your man. He also has pita bread and chips as well as tabuli.

For those of you who need roses in your life, check in with Lin from Eufloria Flowers. He will be there with plenty of flowers to pick from. Varden will be bringing eggs, apples, jams, salsa and baked goods. All local. Joe is another strawberry grower at the market. He also has squash, jicama, raw pea-nuts and lettuce. Maria is bringing a whole lot of variety each week. Things like dried fruits and nuts, garlic, persimmons, pomegranates, onions, salad mix, greens, and lemon grass. My own table has oranges, mandarin oranges, lemons, limes, pineapple guavas, kale, squash and local honey.

We have plenty of variety to satisfy all palates and with any luck we will be expanding in the future. Just tell us what you want. Remember, we are the Nipomo Farmers’ Market and we are your market. See ya!
