Arroyo Grande Community Hospital continues to actively work to cultivate programs that promote healing and wholeness through teamwork and innovative programs and seminars.
In collaboration with the Lucia Mar Adult Education program, AGCH will offer one more free health education class before the end of the year for families of students attending elementary school in south San Luis Obispo County. “Osteoporosis: Building Better Bones” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, will be held at Fairgrove Elementary School, located at 2101 The Pike in Grover Beach. Spanish translation will be available.
Dr. Mary Oates, who specializes in osteoporosis, will be the instructor for “Osteoporosis — Building Better Bones,” which will teach participants about how to prevent osteoporosis, the symptoms of the disease and the latest treatment options.
To learn more about the health education classes or any community outreach education programs available from the hospital, call Roberta Alderete, AGCH community educator, at 473-7662.

A Hospice Light Up A Life ceremony will be held in the gardens of Nipomo’s Kaleidoscope Inn beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5. For seven years, the inn, located at 130 East Dana St., has hosted the Hospice of San Luis Obispo County event at which we honor and remember those we love. Music will be provided by Nipomo’s Valerie Johnson and Al B. Blue.
After a reading of names from the memory book, the hospice tree will be lit and refreshments will be served. A memory table will be available during the evening to display pictures or mementos of your loved ones. Everyone is welcome.
If you would like to sponsor a light on the hospice tree in memory of a loved one, call 544-2266.
For 31 years, Hospice of San Luis Obispo has provided free support, education and counseling to those living with life-threatening or a terminal illness, their families and those mourning the loss of a loved one.
