Nipomo Farmers' Market on move to new location in 2009
By Glenn Johnson/Contributor
Well, change comes to everything, including the Nipomo Farmers’ Market. In fact, we are about to undergo the biggest change since we set up shop at our current location three years ago. We are going to move the location of the market effective the first of the year: We will be setting up shop in the parking lot of the Monarch Club at Trilogy.
One of the biggest complaints over the years has been about the parking situation at our current location. This is going be corrected in a big way. The new location offers much more space for the growers to set up their tables, as well as expanded parking space for the consumers. In addition, this parking space will be much closer to the market for those of you who plan on making multiple trips back and forth to the car.
Being located on the mesa will also get us located in a more central location for this town’s population. I've already had several people comment that the new locale will be closer to where they live. Hopefully, this will translate into more trips to the market. There will be easy access from Tefft Street, Willow and Highway 1.
Now don't panic, we are not going to disappear tomorrow. Between now and the move we will have maps at the market that will show the way to the new location. Just ask any grower for a copy, and he or she will take care of you. We are also developing a website for the market, and we will have a map on it, as well. The site is currently under construction, but I'll let you know when it is up and running. And finally, this change affects only the location. The day and time will remain the same as it is now: between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sundays. We will be happy to give you any information you might want when you visit us this Sunday.
Speaking of this Sunday, we will be having our third annual turkey giveaway this week. We will again be having drawings for two heirloom turkeys the market before Thanksgiving. This is our biggest annual event, and an opportunity for the growers to thank all the customers for their loyal support over the year. This year we will have two separate drawings, one at noon and the other at 1 p.m. What you need to do is get to the market a little early and collect a free ticket from each grower, which you then put in the box. And then wait for the drawing (you must be present to win).
So as we end the year with our traditional Thanksgiving blow out, we can look forward to a new year, a new location, new challenges and a new Nipomo Farmers' Market.
