Outlining sewer plant upgrades

Proposed upgrades to the Southland Wastewater Treatment Facility will be outlined at an information session set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Nipomo Community Services District office, 148 S. Wilson St., Nipomo.

Mike Nunley from Boyle Engineering will present the proposed revisions to the sewer collection mains in South Frontage Road and the treatment works at the facility.

In addition, Nunley will summarize 11 potential options for disposing of the treated wastewater that are being studied but not proposed for implementation at this time, said NCSD General Manager Bruce Buel.

District officials say the plant must be upgraded to treat an increasing volume of wastewater, meet more stringent environmental regulations and deal with percolation problems caused by an impermeable layer of clay beneath the plant site.

The district expects to receive a draft master plan for the proposed upgrade and an environmental review of the draft from Boyle Engineering by the end of November.

Both the draft master plan and the environmental review is scheduled to be presented to NCSD directors at the board meeting set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the NCSD office.

Nipomo residents and others interested in the proposed upgrade plans can attend the information session and comment on the issues, Buel said.
