Marina Bobadilla Washburn will guide the Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos in development of a historical park after being named the group’s new executive director.
Washburn, a Nipomo native, recently returned after 15 years, spending the last nine years in Santa Cruz working in various management positions for the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science.
“I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead as our team restores the adobe and develops the landscape into a 130-acre historical park,” Washburn said.
She will manage the upcoming project, funded in part a $861,000 grant from the California Historical and Cultural Endowment and $715,000 obtained by the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County.
“This project is unique within the state — a restored 1850s adobe plus a portion of the original 38,000-acre Rancho Nipomo,” she said. “We truly are creating a multicultural legacy for future generations.”
Washburn, who returned to Nipomo with husband, Scott, and infant son, Thomas, attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, and is a 1993 graduate of Arroyo Grande High School.
