Radio personality Dave Congalton will emcee the inaugural concert of a new fundraising series — Concerts at the Adobe. The concert, which will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Dana Adobe in Nipomo, will feature the music of Nu Monet.
Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos will use proceeds from the concert series to support a variety of projects, including adobe restoration, educational programs and general operations.
Since 1992, Congalton has hosted an afternoon radio show on KVEC (920 AM) that mixes a discussion of national and local topics.
In addition to his work on radio, Congalton is an award-winning author and co-owner of “Three Cats Two Dogs,” a privately-owned corporation with the goal of developing and producing independent feature films that tell compelling stories.
“We are excited to have Dave Congalton host this concert. His professionalism and reputation add considerable impetus to the concert,” said Paul Mangione, concert organizer. “It’s fitting to have Dave, a Nipomo resident, help us kick off this fundraising series for a Nipomo treasure, the Dana Adobe.”
The duo Nu Monet, with pianist Jim Barnett and vocalist Deanna Delore, will perform a program of tunes from the American songbook, showtunes and jazz standards. Nu Monet will be accompanied by local musicians that include Robert Alberts (trumpet), Dave Becker (alto sax), Harry Goodnight (trombone), Ken Husted (bass), Jeff Miley (guitar), Darrel Voss (drums) and Carl Wells (tenor sax).
A “meet the musicians” reception, including wines and appetizers, will precede the concert at 3 p.m.
A limited number of open seating tickets are still available at $18.50 each. The price includes entry to both the reception and the concert. Because this is an outdoor venue, attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and layered clothing. To purchase tickets, call 929-6825.
