n Adopt-A-Pet featuring cats and kittens (in season) will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday at Lemos, 120 Traffic Way, Arroyo Grande.

All of the cats are from the San Luis Obispo County Pound (Animal Services). They are all spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and are current with all of their vaccinations including rabies. The adoption fee is only $30. Save a precious life and find your best friend.

Sunset North Car Wash will provide all the employees and services while the Cub Scout Pack 13 will provide enthusiastic supporters to draw in customers in return for 15 percent of the day’s total sales. Pack 13 will be selling car wash certificates good for future use at any time at any Sunset North Car Wash location.

n Central Coast Salmon Enhancement’s 25-year anniversary celebration will be held at 5 p.m. at the South County Regional Center, 800 W. Branch St., Arroyo Grande.

The event will feature live and silent auctions, appetizers and a no-host bar with music by Local Vocals. A wild-caught salmon dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. by Phoenix Fine Catering.

n The annual Ken Harmount Pier to Pier Paddle fundraiser for San Luis Obispo County Junior Lifeguard Programs will be held today starting at the Olde Port Beach in Avila to the south of Pismo Pier at the Sea Venture Resort. Registration is from 7 to 7:45 a.m. and launch is at 8 a.m.

Cost is $20 for Surfrider members and junior lifeguards (proof of association is required) and $30 for everyone else, which includes T-shirt and water. Paddle crafts will include surfboards, paddleboards, stand-ups, kayaks, canoes, and outriggers.

n 9-11 American Thunder will hold their 5th annual barbecue from noon to 2 p.m. at Mitchell Park at the corner of Osos and Pismo streets in San Luis Obispo to show support for the troops.

Guest speaker will be Brig. Gen. Mary J. Kight. Music will be provided by the San Luis Obispo County Band, and the Honor Guard provided by Vandenberg Air Force Base. The barbecue is free to all military personnel in uniform and $10 for others.

n The Tomato Extravaganza presented by the University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Gardens Fall Plant sale in El Chorro Regional Park off Hwy. 1 across from Cuesta College. The event is free. The park charges $2 per vehicle entrance fee.

Participants will taste and vote their choices of myriad varieties of tomatoes and basil and listen to mini presentations on growing and using the produce.

n Hats for Hope Community Hat Party and Auction to benefit San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County residents undergoing chemotherapy and radiation will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Rancho Miranda Gardens in Santa Maria. The fundraising event allows Hats for Hope to provide funding for wigs and hats to local residents who are battling cancer.

The event will include music, appetizers, wine and beer tasting, and live and silent auctions. The annual hat contest will award best of show, most fanciful, and most unique.

n San Luis Obispo City Parks and Recreation Ranger-led Hike at Bishop Peak will be held at 1 p.m. To reach the trailhead, take Foothill Boulevard west and make a right turn at Patricia Drive. n Golf N’ Grub Golf Tournament fundraiser for the Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Foundation will be held at Cypress Ridge Golf Course, 780 Cypress Ridge Parkway, Arroyo Grande. Check-in is at 9 a.m. and a shotgun tee-off is at 11 a.m.

Cost is $175 per play, all inclusive. All net proceeds will benefit cancer programs and services including the Coastal Cancer Care and Diagnostic Center. Treats on the course will be provided by Chef Rick’s, Jocko’s, Branch Street Deli and Talley Vineyards. Make a hole-in-one and win a car.
