Volunteers needed for Creek Day cleanup projects
By Staff
Volunteers are needed to help clean up local waterways during the annual San Luis Obispo County Creek Day set for Saturday, Sept. 27.
Each year, residents scour the county’s creeks to remove trash, junk and debris to not only protect local wildlife and beautify the area but also to prevent it from clogging culverts and causing localized flooding.
Cleanups are scheduled in eight areas, including Nipomo, Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly, Atascadero, Templeton and Paso Robles.
To help out, volunteers only need to show up at one of seven check-in stations to be assigned a cleanup area.
Trash bags will be provided, but volunteers should bring their own gloves, hats and sunscreen and should dress appropriately for tromping through the creeks.
The check-in site for Nipomo Creek cleanup volunteers is at the Adobe Plaza on West Tefft Street near Wilson Street.
For more information, call Nipomo Community Services District at 929-1133.
