Newcomers planning annual coffee

The Nipomo Arts Commission will feature an art excursion on Saturday, Aug. 30, to the SLO Art Center Gallery in place of their regular meeting, it will feature the renowned award winning SLO artist Robert Reynolds exhibits including his watercolor, and acrylic paintings as well as preparatory drawings and sketchbooks. The Nipomo Lions Club will present the Blacklake Golf Classic for homeowners and guests on Sept. 18 at the Blacklake Golf Resort. Entry deadline is Sept. 14. Golf and dinner is $75; dinner only is $25; golf only is $10 for annuals (plus cart if required). Annuals pay $35 for the package (plus cart if required); modified scramble format. Entries will be handicapped and teams will be formed as equal as possible. For more information, call Mark Westfall at 343-0644. Proceeds for this event will benefit the Nipomo Lions project “Backpacks for Kids” and Eyesight for Kids.

The Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos (DANA) has announced that tickets for the inaugural concert of Concerts at the Adobe are now available at several local locations in Nipomo, Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo, including Antiques on Monterey, 1599 Monterey St., San Luis Obispo, Caf/ Monet, 1555 S. Broadway, Santa Maria, Nipomo Rexall Drugs, 330. W. Tefft St., Nipomo, and Rabobank at 615 W. Tefft St., Nipomo. Tickets are also available callling 929-6825. The concert will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Dana Adobe. The Dana also will host a pre-concert artist reception starting at 3 p.m. featuring the award-winning wines of Ancient Peaks Winery, from the historic Santa Margarita Ranch. Wine, beer and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

“An Evening in Monaco” held Saturday at the Embassy Suites In San Luis Obispo was a lovely affair. Wine, hors d’oveures, silent auction and much more were held to benefit Pacific Repertory Opera, SLO’s only professional opera company.

Mr. Chewy, our resident ferret in The Woodlands area, has been a busy little boy. Seems he is out scaring the little dogs in the area. I am sure he just wants someone to play with but I would watch your little dogs around him. Ferrets are fun pets but, left on their own, they are indiscriminate killers. Just be cautious.
