n A Texas Hold-em Poker Tournament sponsored by United Cerebral Palsy, will be held at 1 p.m. at Mr. Rick’s in Avila Beach. Entry fee of $60 includes lunch. The tournament is limited to 80 players.

Proceeds will be used to fund the Veterans’ Express service in San Luis Obipso County. The door-to-door transportation service provides rides for veterans to the Veterans’ medical facilities in San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria for $5 each way. Veterans can use the shuttle and catch a bus in Santa Maria to receive medical treatment in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.

n St. Patrick’s Outreach Ministry will host a “Night To Remember” at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo. n “The Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream” Symposium will be presented from 1 to 5 p.m. in Phillips Hall at The Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo. The event is part of a movement started by The Pachamama Alliance to create an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on the planet.

n The San Luis Obispo County Yogathon and Wellness Fair fundraiser for Manzanita School for children will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mitchell Park in downtown San Luis Obispo. Yoga students are invited to the event for 108 sun salutations for a donation of $15. Children can enjoy a Kid’s Yoga Area with yoga activities, crafts and games for an $8 donation.

n The United Church of Christ of San Luis Obispo (Congregational) will present a free screening of the film “For the Bible Tells Me So” at noon in the Fellowship Hall, 11245 Los Osos Valley Road. Future

n A Monte Carlo Casino Night will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. May 30 at the Atascadero Best Western Colony Hall on El Camino Real to benefit the Central Coast Zoo Society. The fundraiser will specifically help fund the New Zoo, a large renovation project planned for the Charles Paddock Zoo.

The entry fee for adults 21 and over is $60 per person and $100 per couple for tickets in advance or $75 per person and $125 per couple for tickets at the door. The entry fee includes chips for gambling and unlimited food and wine. The event will feature dancing, giveaways, and psychic reading. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served with the games beginning at 7 p.m. Blackjack, poker, roulette and craps will be available for play. A poker tournament will be available for an additional $25 entry fee.

n The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Five Cities-Pismo Beach Branch will hold their annual book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 31 at the Kmart parking lot on Branch Street in Arroyo Grande. The sale will benefit educational opportunities for girls and women. Look for great buys, with many books in excellent condition, many collectibles and first editions and coffee table books.

n Afternoon of Epicurean Delight tickets are now available for $100 and can be purchased at The Crushed Grape, the San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande Chambers of Commerce, or by calling the EOC Health Services Administrative office at 544-2498.

The event will be held from 11:30 to 3:30 p.m. June 1 at the Chapman House by the Sea in Shell Beach and will feature fine food and wine, a variety of live music and a silent auction.

Breakaway Tours will provide the shuttle service from F. McLintocks on Mattie Road in Shell Beach which will begin operation at 11:15 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m.

n The Shea Green Expo will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 31 at the Monarch Club at Trilogy Central Coast in Nipomo.

Dozens of local businesses and organizations will be on hand to display and sell green products and share information about environmental services and programs. The free event will have food, beverages, and live reggae music.

n The San Luis Obispo Baby Boomer Expo and Wine Festival will be held June 7 and 8 at the Alex Madonna Expo Center on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo. Entry is free to the public. The event will feature 150 businesses providing products and services.

Woods Humane Society will sponsor the Wine Garden tent featuring wine, food and micro brew tasting along with a variety of music and entertainment. Entry fee is $10 and proceeds will benefit Woods Humane Society.
