n The Arthritis Foundation’s San Luis Obispo Arthritis Walk will kick off at Lake Park in Atascadero. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and walk festivities start at 9 a.m. The distance of the walk is 5K (3.1 miles) with a one-mile option.

The Arthritis Foundation Health Expo will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. to educate participants on the latest resources and services available for arthritis. n Pacific Coast Railroad Roundup will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday at Santa Margarita Ranch at Yerba Buena Avenue. The event will feature train rides, exhibits, entertainment, railroad art, food and souvenirs. Proceeds will benefit the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum’s effort to refurbish a museum site in San Luis Obispo’s historic railroad district.

n The San Luis Obispo County Historical Society’s (SLOCHS) Cultural Landscape Series will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the County Historical Museum at 696 Monterey St. in the original Carnegie Library building across from the Mission.

Historic Landscape Architect Laurie Matthews will join SLOCHS Board President Elise Wheeler to discuss how cultural landscapes strengthen the social fabric of a community. A review of landscapes will be presented, followed by hands-on activity at the Old Edna townsite where participants will practice skills discussed in the morning session.

n The 12th annual Birth and Baby Fair presented by The Birth and Baby Resource Network will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Mission Plaza in downtown San Luis Obispo. Vendors will be selling handmade and specialty items and Central Coast organizations will distribute information about their services for birthing moms and new babies. The event will include a bounce house for children and musical entertainment by local groups including Big Rock Balalaikas and Hear the Darlings Roar and a silent auction. Demonstrations will be presented by Performance Athletics and American Dance Studio.

n The Kiwanis 18th Annual Central Coast All Star Basketball Spectacular 2008 will be held at Nipomo High School. The event will feature Northern Santa Barbara County versus San Luis Obispo County Senior High School All Stars. Girls’ Game begins at 5:30 p.m. and the boys’ game begins at 7:30 p.m. There will be a slam dunk contest and a 3-point shooting contest.

Cost is $5 for adults and $2 for students and children. The event is sponsored by Kiwanis Clubs of Nipomo and Santa Maria Valley.

n The Food Bank will distribute food to low-income residents of Nipomo from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Hall, 300 S. Thompson Road. Bring proof of residency.

n Hospice of San Luis Obispo County will hold Child and Parent Grief Support Groups from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today, May 20 and May 27 at Los Ranchos Elementary School in San Luis Obispo.

Children’s groups will be for kindergarten through sixth grade and will be activity based and tailored to the age of the child. Parents will have a chance to learn information about the grieving process and time to share.

n The Dunes Center, 1055 Guadalupe St., Guadalupe, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Donation fee is $2 for adults. Children under 12 are admitted free.

n Free beginning drawing classes for seniors over 50 will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursdays through May 22 at the Grover Beach Community Center, 1230 Trouville Ave. Instructor is local artist Larry Le Brane. The class will present basic skills of drawing, using pen and ink, charcoal and conte crayon. Students will receive a materials list in the first session and will provide their own art supplies.
