Dogs and cats in Nipomo have a new source for preventive health care and treatment of diseases and injuries with Monday’s opening of the Nipomo Dog & Cat Hospital.
Longtime area veterinarian Maggie Wagner is the owner of the new facility at 525 Sandydale Drive, just off North Frontage Road.
“It will be general small animal medicine and surgery,” Wagner said of her new practice, although she noted she’ll be sharing space with equine veterinarian Eric DeVos.
Her staff includes hospital manager Angela Thompson and front office staff Margo Wighton, Jodi Blanchard and Micci Robertson. The technical staff consists of registered veterinary technician Jenny Abenido, Lauren Manzo and Alissa Esenarro.
“After years of working for someone else, I decided to take the plunge and go out on my own,” Wagner said on her Web site at www.nipomodogandcat.com.
Wagner graduated from Cal Poly and the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Her first job was at a mixed animal practice in Morgan Hill.
“After a couple of years working at a small animal practice combined with tackling ill-mannered horses in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, I decided that working on dogs and cats was more to my liking,” she said.
After four years at Princeton Small Animal Hospital in South San Jose, she moved to Nipomo in 1995 and worked at Mesa Veterinary Hospital before taking a job at Oak Park Veterinary Clinic in Grover Beach.
Nipomo Dog & Cat Hospital is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and can be reached at 929-2855.
