n The eighth annual Authors Forum luncheon presented by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will be held from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel in Santa Maria. Featured authors will be Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and James Houston, co-authors of “Farewell to Manzanar,” the story of her family’s experience during the World War II internment of Japanese- Americans. Other authors appearing at the luncheon will be novelist Lisa Fugard, children’s author Mary Hershey, and Frank Nelson, who writes lighthearted travel books.

n Spring into Health with Auyrveda workshop will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays April 16 through May 14 at Smiling Dog Yoga Studio, 1227 Archer St., San Luis Obispo. Holly Padove’s five-session workshop will teach the ancient healing science from India that offers a balanced and natural approach to optimal health, from weight loss to increased energy.

n Friends of the Nipomo Library will hold a book sale April 5 at the Nipomo Library, 918 W. The 20-hour hands-on course teaches individuals to be better prepared in the event of a major disaster and to form into effective neighborhood teams to assist others.

n A Spring Fling luncheon to benefit CASA — Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 9 at the Monday Club, 1815 Monterey St., San Luis Obispo. The event will include live and silent auctions. Emcees will be Chad and Andy, the Good Time Gang, and Cat Country 96. A performance by local children will be directed by Jennifer Blomfield Booker.

n“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” to Stop Rape will be held April 26 in San Luis Obispo. Registration and check-in will be held at 11 a.m. at Mitchell Park, 1400 Osos St. The march will begin at noon. Men, women and children are invited to participate. Men are encouraged, but not required, to walk in women’s shoes. High heels in all sizes will be available.

Registration fee is $20 per person or $100 for a team with a maximum of six members. All participants registering prior to April 14 will receive a free event T-shirt. Proceeds from sponsored walkers will benefit the Sexual Assault Recovery and Prevention Center’s violence prevention efforts and provision of crisis services in San Luis Obispo County. n Arroyo Grande Community Hospital in collaboration with Lucia Mar Adult Education program will offer a series of free health education classes at Fairgrove Elementary School, 991 The Pike, Oceano. A class on “Diabetes” will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. April 29. A class on “Asthma, Symptoms and Management” will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. May 27.

n A Monte Carlo Casino Night will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. May 30 at the Atascadero Best Western Colony Hall on El Camino Real to benefit the Central Coast Zoo Society. The fundraiser will specifically help fund the New Zoo, a large renovation project planned for the Charles Paddock Zoo.

The entry fee for adults 21 and over is $60 per person and $100 per couple for tickets in advance or $75 per person and $125 per couple for tickets at the door. The entry fee includes chips for gambling and unlimited food and wine. The event will feature dancing, giveaways, and psychic reading. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served with the games beginning at 7 p.m. Blackjack, poker, roulette and craps will be available for play. A poker tournament will be available for an additional $25 entry fee.

n The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Five Cities-Pismo Beach Branch is seeking donations of books for their 13th annual book sale to be held May 31 at the K-Mart parking lot on Branch Street in Arroyo Grande. The sale will benefit educational opportunities for girls and women.
