n Marie Callender’s Blood Drive sponsored by United Blood Services will be held through April 12. Donations may be made Monday through Friday at the United Blood Services Center, 1770 S. n New Beginnings Community Church of the Nazarene started five and a half years ago with a few excited and faithful members. Good Friday, March 21, annual six churches “passing of the cross” will be at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. The Tenebrae Service of light and darkness with “seven last words” from the cross is at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Easter Sunrise, March 23 at the beach will be at 6:30 a.m. at the end of Grand Avenue on the patio. Easter Resurrection Services will be at the church at 8:30 and 10:40 a.m. with choirs, lilies, and new life. The annual Easter breakfast will be held from 7:15 to 10:30 a.m. in the Hall. The youth will serve egg casserole, fruits, orange juice, coffee and breads.

n The City Church has Sunday services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. and a Wednesday service at 7 p.m. Youth service is at 7 p.m. Thursday. Senior pastor is Fred Kropp.

The church will hold its Easter Festival from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday on the new church property, located off the 101 Freeway near the Los Berros and Thompson Road exit. The free festival is open to the public and will feature bounce houses, an animal petting zoo and a variety of game booths. The Egg Hunt Spectacular begins at 2 p.m. for children of all ages.

Easter Sunday, the church will celebrate Resurrection Sunday at the 640 South Frontage Road location. Families can choose one of three services; a Sunrise Service at 7 a.m., 9 a.m. service or 11 a.m. service. Refreshments and a gourmet coffee kiosk will be available following the 7 and 9 a.m. services. A free Santa Maria-style barbecue will be held following the 11 a.m. service.

Tickets are $24 for children and adults for an all-day pass for the rides, rockwall and miniature golf attractions. Each person will also receive 30 free tokens for video games. n The South County Senior Women’s Pool Players meet from 10 a.m. to noon the first, third and fourth Tuesdays of the month.

n The Five Cities Swim Club, 425 Traffic Way, Arroyo Grande, is offering physical education classes for home-schooled children at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

n A Legal Clinic for Self-Represented Litigants will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the San Luis Obispo Women’s Community Center, 800 Industrial Way. The clinic will have one-on-one legal advice for persons filing their own divorces. Document preparers will be available to assist participants in completing court-required forms. Clinic sessions are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

n Free beginning drawing classes for seniors over 50 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, April 1 through May 20, at Congregation Beth David, 10180 Los Osos Valley Road, San Luis Obispo. Instructor is local artist Larry Le Brane. The class will present basic skills of drawing, using pen and ink, charcoal and conte crayon. Students will receive a materials list in the first session and will provide their own art supplies.

Thursday

n The Dunes Center, 1055 Guadalupe St., Guadalupe, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Donation fee is $2 for adults. Children under 12 are admitted free.

All hikes and walks are free. There is a $5 parking fee at Oso Flaco Lake Natural Area. An all-terrain wheelchair is available for those with limited mobility. To reserve the wheelchair, call Carrie at 343-2455, Ext. 205.

n The Arroyo Grande Rotary Club will host the eighth annual Championship Poker and Blackjack Tournament on March 27 at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.

The entry fee of $100 covers food and two drink tickets and $100 worth of chips to play either Poker or Blackjack. Food and drinks will be served at 5 p.m. Games will start at 6 p.m. Dinners for people who would like to attend but not play cards are available for $15 each.
