A Sunday night party in Nipomo ended in the arrest of three men and two juveniles, including one who was allegedly armed with a handgun, a San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.

A total of seven individuals had been drinking alcoholic beverages behind a residence in the 300 block of Saturn Court around 7:40 p.m. when deputies arrived and discovered several minors among the group, said Sgt. Brian Hascall.

Deputies arrested Alexis Ortiz, 18, of Nipomo, who was allegedly carrying a .357-caliber magnum revolver, Hascall said.

Alfredo Yepez, 19, and a 16-year-old, both of Nipomo, were arrested on outstanding felony warrants, and a 14-year-old of Nipomo was arrested on a violation of probation, he said.

Freddy Ramirez, 20, of Arroyo Grande, who was allegedly carrying brass knuckles, was also arrested, Hascall said.

The remaining individuals were released.

All seven individuals are known gang members, he added.

Fire burns 9 acres near Oceano Dunes

Nine acres of grass burned last Saturday morning at the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area, a Cal Fire/County Fire Department dispatcher said.

At press time, investigators are trying to determine what started the fire in a grassy area near the dune lakes around 7:40 a.m., said dispatcher Michelle Aguilar.

Fire crews had to hike about a mile from their access point at Mountain View and Halcyon roads, she said.

The fire was contained at 11:10 a.m. No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.

Cause of Falcon Ridge fire still unknown

The cause of a 7-acre wildfire on a plot of land known as the “Busick tract” behind Falcon Ridge Estates last week may remain unknown.

According to Cal Fire/County Fire Department investigator Andy Andersen, the origin of cause of the fire could not be determined.

Andersen previously said four male juveniles were seen leaving the scene. One witness said he heard popping sounds from the area where the fire originated and saw several male juveniles leaving the scene.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the cause of the fire to call Cal Fire at 547-9331.

Euphrat’s work can be seen in and around Avila Beach, which has undergone a transformation in the last five years. He won the State American Planning Association award for the Avila Beach Specific Plan.
